about

Drifter Ferments is a fermentation specialty store and café in the historic center of Warwick, NY. We make fermented vegetables, non-soybean tempeh, and sourdough bread for resale. Our cafe serves farm-to-table casual fare, locally roasted coffee, and herbal & fermented specialty drinks. All our ingredients are sourced from farms and purveyors who grow or source organic, fair trade ingredients and we source our ingredients locally whenever possible.

Tara Whitsitt opened Drifter Ferments in March 2021. She previously taught fermentation with her non-profit Fermentation on Wheels and also wrote a book by the same name. In addition to being passionate about making fermented foods for her community, she also hopes to empower people to ferment foods in their home kitchens. Since 2022, following the birth her son Ziggy, she has taken a hiatus from teaching fermentation. She plans to offer online classes in Spring 2024.
